–Learning language through music–
Learning Pod: #3
Peers’ Names: Chantale, Conrad, Anna & Claire
Components of the Interactive Learning Resource that might be missing (e.g., appropriate outcomes, alignment, interactivity, inclusivity, technology use and rationale, presentation, grammar, spelling, citations, etc.).
- In the description & rationale for learning theory section of the resource – one of the citations is missing the date. (GKonous et al.) I also think a citation is needed for the MIT article that you reference.
- In the open-pedagogy section, you are clear about the reasoning behind your choice but I feel there may be a citation or two that is missing to reference those ideas.
- The reference list will need to be added at the bottom of the resource.
- There are a few points of peer/class discussion throughout your resource. I think it would be helpful to expand on this by providing discussion prompts to clearly understand what that would look like.
Summary of The Interactive Learning Resource’s strengths and weaknesses
Strengths:
- First of all, I love the topic! I also appreciate that you approached it as teaching pre-service teachers, rather than young students.
- Excellent job on the editing – I did not find a single spelling error.
- Your first learning outcome, “learners can list 4 aspects of language learning that can be considered while teaching a language” is really great! It is clearly stated and measurable.
- I like that your summative assessment is a Kahoot game because they are so great for collaboration and reviewing content. Students could also create the questions themselves before the whole class plays, to deepen their understandings.
- I like that you have integrated peer and whole class discussion throughout. With synchronous learning online, having opportunities to discuss material and clear up any misconceptions/understandings is so crucial. It also builds classroom community which I can tell you have considered throughout your resource.
Weaknesses:
- The second learning outcome, “learners can describe various teaching strategies and methods embodied in the workshop” is not very specific. Perhaps consider changing it to something more measurable like, “learners will be able to apply singing activities, conversation strategies, and analysis of songs to successfully teach a lesson on French vocabulary.”
- I think your assessment plan could be expanded on as I am not super clear on how the singing or discussion activities will be assessed.
General, specific, and practical recommendations on how to improve the Interactive Learning Resource.
Learning pod #3 has done a wonderful job at creating a resource that links learning theory with practice. I appreciate their clear reasoning and action behind their inclusive practices as well as their rationale for tech choices. However, I would recommend strengthening their assessment plan by stating clearly what they are assessing based on the according learning outcomes. Below are a few additional suggestions to strengthen the resource.
Brief commentary on each topic & activity
- Your commentary on the topics and activities are not so brief -perhaps consider shortening them up a bit.
Canva
- To make your presentation more user friendly and easy to read, you may want to consider utilizing more bullet points rather than putting full paragraphs on each page.
Inclusion
- For the single parent, recording the Zoom session to be watched later at their convenience would further accessibility in your resource.
